Handcrafted from the Heart of Mackinac Island
Handcrafted Heritage from the Heart of Mackinac Island
earth does not belong to us.. we belong to the earth. Every stone, piece of wood carries the spirit of the land
The Great Lakes—Superior, Michigan, Huron, Erie, and Ontario—are a source of life, beauty, and inspiration. Their waters shape the land, smooth the stones, and carry the wisdom of nature. Every wave brings new gifts to the shore, ready to be transformed into something meaningful.
The Great Lakes offer endless treasures—polished stones, driftwood, and shells shaped by wind and water. Each piece carries the energy of the land and water, becoming part of something new, a creation that reflects the spirit of the place it came from.
The shores of the Great Lakes hold nature’s artwork—agate, stones, and driftwood, each shaped by time and water. These natural elements are gathered with care and transformed into pieces that honor the land, the water, and the stories they hold.
A Connection to Land and Water
The Great Lakes have always given to those who listen—stones, wood, and natural materials shaped by their journey. Through handcrafted art, these gifts find new meaning, carrying the essence of the lakes and the traditions of those who walk their shores.
Welcome to Moon Feather Mackinac, where nature, heritage, and craftsmanship come together to create one-of-a-kind treasures inspired by the Great Lakes.
I was born and raised in Michigan and have Native American ancestry in the Chippewa tribe. For as long as I can remember, I have been drawn to the natural beauty of the Great Lakes—collecting rocks, driftwood, and other materials from all five lakes. Over the years, this passion has led me on a journey as a dedicated rockhound, finding joy in uncovering nature’s hidden gems.
After retiring, I embraced a new chapter—one that allows me to transform these natural elements into unique handmade pieces that find homes all over the world. Every item I create carries a piece of the Great Lakes’ spirit and reflects the traditions and artistry of my Native American heritage.
Where do you find the materials for your art?
I collect natural materials from the shores of Mackinac Island and all five Great Lakes. Each piece—whether it’s a stone, driftwood, or shell—has been shaped by the water and carries the essence of the land.
What kinds of materials do you use from the Great Lakes?
I use polished stones, Petoskey stones, driftwood, shells, and other natural elements that wash up on the shores of Mackinac Island and surrounding Great Lakes areas. Every piece is unique and tells a story of its journey through time and water
Why is Mackinac Island special for collecting materials?
Mackinac Island is surrounded by the Great Lakes’ crystal-clear waters, limestone bluffs, and rocky shores, making it a perfect place to find rare and beautiful natural materials. The island has a deep connection to Native American history, and I honor that tradition in my art.
Are the materials ethically sourced?
Yes! I respectfully gather materials that have naturally washed ashore, ensuring I leave the environment undisturbed. My goal is to preserve the beauty of the Great Lakes while sharing its gifts through my handcrafted pieces.
Do you only collect from Mackinac Island?
While Mackinac Island is my home and main source of inspiration, I also collect materials from all five Great Lakes during my travels. This allows me to incorporate different textures, colors, and energies into my work.
How does the Great Lakes environment shape your artwork?
The Great Lakes have a powerful influence on my art. The way water smooths a stone, wind shapes driftwood, and time polishes a fossil inspires each piece I create. Every item carries a little piece of the lakes’ spirit and history.
